Our War: Goodbye Afghanistan

BBC, 2014

  • "Breathtaking, stirring, intensely moving and shocking – these words are scarcely adequate to describe this 90-minute film, but there are no better ones."

    ★★★★★ Daily Mail

  • "A war movie, an elegy and a cry for justice for those who have returned damaged and redundant."

    ★★★★★ The Times

  • “astonishing viewing”

    The Guardian

This film tells the story of the Afghanistan war through the words and pictures of the young British soldiers who fought it.  From the platoon sergeant who lost one of his men just two weeks into their tour of duty to the terrifying moment a British Apache helicopter fired on its own unit ; the eye-opening testimony of a surgeon working in a field hospital and the dramatic scenes when a war-weary sergeant leads his men into a surprise attack on one of the Taliban's largest bomb-making factories. Soldiers recall their extraordinary experiences in intimate first-hand testimonies as the film charts a bigger picture of how this small military mission escalated into a prolonged  and devasting thirteen year war.
